Glasgow-born, Brussels-based artist Lucy McKenzie is an skillful painter, collaborator and creator of high fashion. Her work includes large-scale architectural paintings, illusionistic trompe l鈥檕eil works, as well as fashion and design.
Throughout her career, McKenzie has explored themes such as the iconography of international sport, the representation of women, gender politics, music subcultures and post-war muralism.
In this film, the artist discussed the importance of collaboration, challenging the notion of authorship, as well as her use of the trompe l鈥檕eil technique; whereby paintings are so convincingly real they literally 鈥渄eceive the eye鈥.
