Listening Aloud, Listening Allowed
Work with video and performance artist and artist, scholar, composer and conductor to explore the wide range of modern and contemporary artwork in relation to your classroom practice.Â
The session will explore techniques of improvisation based on the concepts of ‘sonic awareness’ by Pauline Oliveros and ‘unlearning’ by bell hooks. By working with the body, voice, physical and psychological presence - ‘being in the moment’ -  you and the group will be supported to question what it means to resist and break down our own positions of authority within the learning environment.
How can we challenge authoritative language in the learning environment to encourage new realms of possibility? How might we allow room for mistakes and failure in the discussing and making of art in the classroom?Â
This session allows you to experiment with forms of presentation, making and interpretation to develop creative and critical thinking in the classroom. It is an opportunity for you to share ideas and activities that can be developed back at school in a shared dialogue around art.
