Tony Cragg

18 March – 4 June 2000
Blank Image (for use as default)

Tate Liverpool's spring exhibition presents the work of Tony Cragg, one of Britain's leading sculptors. This major exhibition, developed in consultation with the artist, brings together a body of recent and new work, the majority of which has not been seen in the UK. A series of works in plaster and bronze are shown together with works on paper in the riverside galleries.

A follow up to his highly successful Whitechapel show of 1997, this exhibition demonstrates Cragg's intense creative activity. In the new works, Cragg continues to deal with preoccupations about materials and making, natural and artificial, the vessel and the body whilst developing a more formal and abstract language.

Born in Liverpool in 1949, Cragg moved away from a scientific background to pursue a career as an artist. Over the last twenty-five years he has exhibited widely, gaining international acclaim. He won the Turner Prize in 1988 and is a Royal Academician.
