É«¿Ø´«Ã½

What would it mean for choreography to perform as an exhibition? This question forms the starting point for Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s latest ground-breaking work Work/Travail/Arbeid.

De Keersmaeker first performed at É«¿Ø´«Ã½ during the opening of the Tanks in 2012. For this new work, she has transferred her dance performance Vortex Temporum 2013, choreographed to music by composer Gérard Grisey, from the theatre stage to the more open setting of a museum. The exhibition was originally presented at WEILS Centre for Contemporary Art, Brussels, and its intricate intertwining of sound and movement has been reimagined for the unique space of É«¿Ø´«Ã½â€™s Turbine Hall. The work questions the convention that choreography can only be presented on stage and celebrates dance as a rigorous, structured medium.

Performances will run more or less continuously throughout  these times. Audience members are welcome to sit in and around the dancers on the dance floor.

FREE, no tickets needed

In conjunction with the performance, De Keersmaeker has created a newly designed workshop held in the Turbine Hall. Participants are invited to access the dance material fromWork/Travail/Arbeid using a simple phrase taught by dancers in De Keersmaeker’s company Rosas. The workshop lasts one hour and is open to anyone aged six and over.

Free, booking required. All spaces available in advance are now fully booked. A small number of spaces will be available on the day for each workshop on a first come, first served basis. 

The exhibition is performed by Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker’s dance company Rosas and the musicians of Ictus, ensemble for contemporary music.
