Rejecting traditional ideas of ‘sculpture’, artists began to think about artworks as independent objects. By bringing the artwork down from the pedestal and placing it on the floor, artists created a different relationship between the viewer, the artwork and the space around it. There are works that engage directly with the architecture of the gallery, or the materials and forms associated with everyday buildings. Others emphasise the role of the viewer in making sense of the work as they walked around it.
This tour will also explore the adjoining rooms with work by Lewis Baltz,ÌýJoan Jonas and Ricardo Basbaum.
Delivered in British Sign Language by guide Martin Glover.Â
