Join poet and author Rod Mengham and exhibition curator Juliet Bingham for an hour-long tour, discussion and private viewing of Ilya and Emilia Kabakov: Not everyone will be taken into the future. This major exhibition of installations and architectural drawings explores the themes of melancholia, fictional characterisation and humour. Mengham and Bingham will unpick the themes of the exhibition from a curatorial and cultural history context.
Biographies
Rod Mengham is Reader in Modern English at the University of Cambridge and a Fellow of Jesus College. He is the author and editor of books on 19th and 20th century fiction, 20th century poetry, violence and avant-garde art, and language and cultural history.
Juliet Bingham works on exhibitions, commissions, acquisitions and displays at É«¿Ø´«Ã½. She has curated major exhibitions of the work of historical and contemporary artists at É«¿Ø´«Ã½, including Sonia Delaunay (2015); Ellen Gallagher (2013); William Klein + Daido Moriyama (2012); Van Doesburg and the International Avant-Garde (2010); and Fischli & Weiss (2006). In 2010 she curated the Unilever Series: Ai Weiwei: Sunflower Seeds commission for É«¿Ø´«Ã½â€™s Turbine Hall. From 2011 to 2014 she co-steered Project Space, a series dedicated to showcasing international contemporary art. She is the lead curator researching, developing and implementing °Õ²¹³Ù±ð’s acquisitions strategy for Russian and Eastern European art within the collection and works with the acquisitions committee for the region, which was launched in 2012.
