Join us for a three-day occupation of Tate Exchange, featuring an installation that challenges our understanding and perception of spaces for learning as well as a programme of provocative discussions, workshops and film screenings.
Created by new teachers from the Institute of Education/University College London working with the Freelands Foundation, the occupation uses a combination of approaches, different media and interactive elements. It invites you to explore your own experience of the classroom and the education space of the museum to question why spaces for education look the way that they do. To accompany the installation of work created by PGCE student teachers at the IOE, an exciting programme of events will take place that further unpick questions raised by the occupation. These will include daily panel discussions featuring a range of speakers that ask 鈥榃hat is an Art Teacher?鈥, drop-in 鈥楶arents鈥 Evening鈥 sessions, workshops for families and film screenings by past and current students of the IOE/UCL. There will be an opportunity to see 鈥淔ully Awake鈥 a 2008 documentary about Black Mountain College, by Cathryn Davis Zommer, that explores the college's progressive pedagogy and radical approach to arts education, as well as 鈥淭hinking Making鈥, the new film by Henry Ward, Head of Education at Freelands Foundation, that investigates the pioneering approach taken at Plymouth College of Art where making has been placed at the centre of their ideology.
No need to book - just drop into any of the below across the 3-day programme.
