You’ll leave this workshop ready to run your own film event. Learn what it takes to put on a one-off film screening, or to create a whole film festival. You don’t need any previous experience or knowledge to join in.
We’ll explore what makes an artist film different from a ‘normal’ film, learning from Scratch Video (a 1980s experimental, anti-establishment, anti-TV, DIY film movement). We’ll think about cinema as a social place, considering everything from the layout of the room to getting the copyright permission to show the films you want.Â
This workshop is led by Nicole Yip, Special Projects Curator at , the UK-based agency who works with moving-image artists from around the world, as part of its month long visit to Tate St Ives. , Curator of Artists’ Moving Image at the National Archive, will also be talking with us about his work, and the day will culminate with a screening of post-punk youth film ‘Performing the Self’ from the internationally touring project ''.
