Description

[Translation/transcription]

the whole thing carries the risk of major financial sacrifice. I don’t have the paintings yet – they’re neither conceived nor born ¬– and N. is already asking who will cover the costs if, as is to be expected, they don’t sell. I’m told that I myself, as the prospective father of these stillborn [illegibles], am to bear the costs and produce the catalogue etc etc etc. How can I possibly know what might intervene between spring and summer, whether I shall be able to paint good paintings, without anxiety, without being hurried. A dubious prospect, as far as I’m concerned. The studio still isn’t finished. There’s too much hanging on me and my rheumatic arm. And now I (we), for the first time in our lives, are plagued with insomnia, for which I must compensate by sleeping through the morning. Time-consuming but necessary.

I need to make a decision in the next few days.

Sincerely,

Erich
